We just launched a new tab for each lyric project. The comments tab lets you create a discussion around your
lyric project.
You
can use comments to keep a journal of your lyric or write notes to yourself.
Comments become even more valuable for shared
lyrics. If a lyric is shared, the comments tab becomes a place to build
a discussion. You can put review notes there,
suggestions, or post what you did so when your co-writer logs back in
they can see exactly where you left it.
Adding comments is very simple.
1. Select the Comments tab
2. Type in your comment
3.
An email will automatically be sent to all the collaborators. Uncheck
the names of any of the people that don't need to get an email for the
comment.
4. Click Post this comment
The comments tab shows the number of comments that have been posted in parenthesis like this:
To delete a comment, just click the trash icon next to the comment
If you are the lyric owner, you can delete
comments posted by anyone. If you are a guest collaborator, you can only
deleted the comments you posted.
The comment list is sorted the
time comments were posted with the newest at the top. This also clearly
shows who posted the comment along with the date.
TIP: If you are reviewing a lyric and providing
critique, you can using the sidebar to display the lyric while adding
your notes in the comment tab!
The comment tab was requested by
several beta testers right after collaboration went live last week.
Thanks to Beta tester A.E. for being the first!
Now with Sharing, Revisions, Files and Comments you have everything you need to get started on your next co-write!
Happy Songwriting!
The Lilac Writer Team
Many if not most of the best songs written are co-written. Co-writers
work in different ways - music and lyrics, inspiration and craft, build
and polish. Co-writing is often the difference between a hit song and a
forgotten song. Without co-writing 1000's of song starts would never
even be finished.
Lilac Writer enables collaboration with the Sharing tab on each lyric project.
On the Sharing tab click "Invite Collaborators".
Enter the collaborator's email address and any message you would like to send with the invitation.
You can currently share a lyric with up to 10 collaborators.
NOTE:
Collaborators must have a Lilac Writer account. If you want to
collaborate with someone who isn't yet part of the beta group, you can
invite them to be part of the Beta group by sending us their email
address using the Contact Us form. We will invite them to the beta.
- Collaborators can see and edit the lyric, ideas, and rhymes in your lyric project.
- Collaborators can also check off completed To-do Actions or enter new ones.
- Collaborators can download files and upload new files. They cannot delete any files you uploaded.
- Collaborators cannot change the title
- Collaborators cannot delete your lyric. If they do delete it, the lyric is no longer shared with them.
- Tags are private. The owner and collaborator can both add tags independently to organize lyrics
- A shared lyric is automatically tagged with "Shared" by the system for both owners and collaborators.
Sharing gives you lots of tools to interact with the lyric along with your co-writers.
One key feature of Lilac Writer that makes this work is the
automatic revision history on the Revisions tab. If you or your
co-writer takes the song in the wrong direction, you can go back to any
previous save and bring it back very easily. You can also use revisions
to see who contributed what to the song!
The new collaboration tools are great for
distance collaboration or collaboration in the same room. It is a major
new feature of Lilac Writer that takes it one step closer to becoming
an indispensable songwriting tool!
Happy Songwriting!
